Air Conditioning Regas & Repair in Blackburn

A car air conditioning system naturally loses refrigerant over time — typically around 10–15% per year through microscopic permeation. After 2–3 years, most systems need regassing to restore cold air output. If your air con isn't blowing cold, has developed a musty smell, struggles to demist, or makes unusual noises, Ewood Pitstop LTD can diagnose and repair the problem properly.

Air conditioning is part of our wider car servicing and car repairs service in Blackburn. AC regas starts from £55.

Air con services we carry out

Air con regas

We recover the remaining refrigerant, check the system for leaks, apply vacuum to remove moisture, and recharge to the correct specification. Takes around 45–60 minutes. From £55.

Leak testing

If refrigerant loss is faster than normal, there's a leak somewhere in the system. We use UV dye or electronic leak detection to pinpoint the location before recharging.

Compressor check

The compressor pumps refrigerant around the system. A failed or failing compressor causes a rattling noise when AC is engaged, reduced cooling, or no cold air at all.

Cabin filter replacement

The cabin filter (pollen filter) sits in the ventilation path. A blocked or mouldy filter is often the cause of musty smells from the vents. Quick to replace — recommended annually.

Condenser inspection

The condenser sits in front of the radiator. Stone chips and debris can cause small leaks. We inspect for damage and carry out repair or replacement where needed.

AC system diagnostic

If the system is losing refrigerant quickly after a regas, or the compressor is cycling unusually, we carry out a full diagnostic to identify the root cause before further work.

Air con warning signs

Not blowing cold air — Low refrigerant (most common), compressor fault, or condenser leak.
Musty or unpleasant smell — Bacteria and mould in the evaporator or blocked cabin filter.
Takes too long to cool down — Low refrigerant or partially blocked system.
Rattling when AC is on — Failing compressor clutch or debris in the fan.
Windows demist slowly — AC is used for demisting — poor performance affects demist speed.
AC light flashing — System fault detected — requires diagnostic scan.

How does car air conditioning in blackburn work at Ewood Pitstop?

Weak cooling, smells or slow demisting may need a regas, leak test, cabin filter or system diagnosis—not an automatic recharge.
