Tyres in Blackburn
Your tyres are the only part of your vehicle in contact with the road — they affect braking distance, fuel economy, steering response and overall safety. Whether you've noticed uneven wear, a vibration at speed, low tread depth, or you simply want a tyre check as part of routine maintenance, we can help.
Tyre services are part of our broader car repairs and MOT service in Blackburn. If your tyres are causing a warning light or your vehicle feels different to drive, our diagnostic service can also identify whether the issue is tyre-related or something else.
What we check and what we do
A tyre inspection isn't just about measuring tread depth. It's about understanding the condition of all four tyres, what the wear pattern tells you about the rest of the vehicle, and whether replacement is needed now or can wait.
Tread depth measurement
The legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre. We measure all four and flag anything approaching or below the safe threshold of 3mm — the point at which wet weather braking starts to deteriorate noticeably.
Wear pattern analysis
How a tyre wears tells you a lot. Edge wear suggests underinflation or alignment issues. Centre wear points to overinflation. Diagonal or patchy wear can indicate suspension or balancing problems — we'll flag if we see anything.
Sidewall and surface inspection
Bulges, cuts, cracks or damage on the tyre sidewall can cause sudden blowouts. We check the condition of the rubber across the full tyre, not just the tread area.
Tyre pressure check
Incorrect pressure affects tyre life, fuel economy and handling. We check and correct pressures to manufacturer specification as part of every tyre inspection.
Replacement and fitting
If replacement is needed, we supply and fit tyres to suit your vehicle — from budget options to premium brands. We'll explain the options and recommend based on your budget and usage.
Valve and balance check
We check valve condition and balance newly fitted tyres to eliminate vibration and prevent uneven wear from day one.
Signs your tyres need attention
Don't wait until a tyre fails to get it checked. These are the most common warning signs that something needs looking at:
Tyres and your MOT
Tyres are one of the most common reasons vehicles fail their MOT. Tread below 1.6mm is an automatic fail, but so are visible cuts or bulges on the sidewall, tyres of the wrong size or rating for the vehicle, or mismatched tyres on the same axle where the difference in rolling circumference is significant.
If you're booked in for an MOT and aren't certain about tyre condition, bring the car in ahead of time for a pre-MOT tyre check. We can replace anything that would cause a fail so your MOT runs first time. See our MOT testing page for booking details.
