Exhaust Repair in Blackburn
A damaged, blowing or leaking exhaust affects emissions, fuel economy, engine performance and MOT compliance. If your vehicle has become noticeably louder, smells of fumes inside the cabin, is failing emissions tests, or you can hear a blowing sound from under the car, the exhaust system needs professional attention.
At Ewood Pitstop LTD we carry out exhaust inspections, section repairs, full system replacements, and deal with DPF and catalytic converter issues as part of our comprehensive car repairs service in Blackburn. Exhaust faults are one of the most common MOT failure points — don't leave it until test day.
Exhaust system components we repair
Exhaust manifold
Connects the cylinder head to the exhaust system. Manifold cracks or gasket failure cause a ticking or blowing sound at the engine — louder when cold and often accompanied by fumes near the engine bay.
Catalytic converter
Converts harmful exhaust gases into less harmful emissions. Failure causes an emissions fail at MOT, a rattling sound, reduced performance and often triggers the engine management light.
DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter)
Traps soot particles from diesel exhaust. Blockages occur when the vehicle is predominantly used for short journeys preventing regeneration. We advise on DPF cleaning, forced regeneration or replacement.
Centre section
The pipe running under the vehicle connecting manifold to back box. Corrosion along joints and clamps causes blowing — a noticeable increase in exhaust noise particularly at speed.
Back box (silencer)
The final section of the exhaust. Rust and corrosion are common — particularly at the rear. A rusted-through back box produces a loud drone or blowing sound at the rear of the vehicle.
Clamps, flanges & mountings
Rubber exhaust mountings deteriorate over time causing the system to sag and vibrate. Loose sections can contact the vehicle body or floor, producing rattling noises at low speed.
